BIRDWORLD
KURANDA
North Queensland
As
the result of a $35 million Skyrail service from Cairns to Kuranda
Village in the mountains, ECO HABITATS constructed a tourist sanctuary
to contain both Australian and Exotic birds.
Birdworld
exhibits the greatest number of species flying together, anywhere
in the world, over 75 species in all. Although parks such as Jurong
in Singapore boast greater numbers, they are not flying together
within the same canopy.
This project has developed a close association with the adjacent
Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, and now offers visitors a more
comprehensive "eco experience".
This
huge free-flight aviary is superbly landscaped with lakes and
waterfalls and lush tropical foliage
The
move towards free-flight enclosures has proven to be extremely
successful, and undoubtedly the days of exhibiting birds in small
cages are coming to a close.
